Symptoms Associated with Cold and Allergies

The main differences between the cold and allergy symptoms are the duration of the symptoms and the color of the mucus.

Allergy symptoms last until the exposure to the allergen stops, while the cold symptoms only last a week or two.

If the nasal discharge is clear, thin and watery, it’s most certainly an allergic reaction. On the other hand, if there is thick, greenish or yellowish mucus it’s probably a cold.

The time when the symptoms occur is also a telltale. Allergies often appear throughout spring until fall, while winter is the most common time for colds.

In the allergies vs cold battle one may be confused about which one is afflicting. The treatment methods are very different depending on the illness so one is better to be sure of which is it before self-medicating. Just pay attention to the signs and when in doubt, see your regular doctor.
